Ravichandran is back in action in the film Neelakanta which shows shades of his film Usire and another Telugu film. It is his best film released this year and is also different from other movies released recently. The movie is a remake of the Tamil film, Aranmanai Kili which was remade in Telugu as Manasunna Maaraaju starring Arjun in the male lead.

Neelakanta is a labourer working for a rich family where a young girl is brought up by her uncle as her parents died in an accident. As part of his work, Neelakanta was sent to the city where he meets a poor girl who begs for his help. Neelakanta feels pity for her and saves her from the clutches of a gang of criminals indulging in a prostitution racket. In order to save the girl from the gangsters, Neelakanta takes her along with him to his village and provides her shelter in one of his relatives' house. By sheer accident Neelakanta is made to marry a rich girl.

Neelakanta's mother develops good relations with the poor girl brought by Neelakanta from the city and she is not willing to accept her son's marriage. Neelakanta's mother is so upset about his marriage that she vows not to look at his face again. Neelakanta faces all the obstacles in his life with courage and is very affectionate to his mother and wife Madadhi. The word Neelakanta refers to Lord Shiva who swallows poison, but retains it in his throat. Similarly, Neelakanta faces the problems of his life all by himself. He is very obedient and sincere to his master.

Neelakanta who always helps the needy is very depressed that he is not able to resolve his own personal issues. Even his wife starts suspecting him to the extreme, thereby taking things to the extreme. When his issues appear to be resolving his mother narrates the story of his master. In her death bed she repents for misunderstanding her son.

The movie has good music and a strong emotional story with an adequate amount of comedy. However, the suffers because of weak narration. Sexy Namitha has performed well and has contributed to the film in terms of glamour. The song sequences of Namitha and Ravichandran contain too much glamour. Namitha has given an excellent performance while Ravichandran has performed very well in the emotional scenes. The song of Namitha and the duet of Namitha and Ravichandran have become very popular.

The second half of the movie is mostly devoted to emotional scenes.
